and that’s just what we know.
sexual assault is the most underreported crime in our society.
and the aftermath is rarely discussed, nonetheless understood.
the psychological, emotional, physical, and social consequences of sexual assault are enormous.
sexual assault is often described as a form of torture. it is both psychological and physical annihilation. most feel the assailant has killed a part of them. sexual violence takes something away that can never again be regained. a moment that cannot be undone.
mary morgan
mary morgan is an artist, writer and scholar who focuses on body politics. a survivor of rape and sexual assaults, morgan uses personal narrative as case studies to show the realities of not only sexual assault, but also the perpetrator and victim. morgan’s research and theory centers around the elimination of rape culture and rape myths at the roots, and how to change a societal culture that is deeply entrenched in both. her work connects issues related to body autonomy, especially the eradication of rape and rape culture from our society. her work, both written and visual, uses a combination of research, theory, history and narrative, with the goal of fighting for true body autonomy for all.
she holds an masters in journalism from georgetown university and an mfa from the university of the arts london. she is the former uk fcdo comms director on syria. originally from buffalo, new york, she lived in washington, dc and beirut, lebanon before moving to london.
